Logan Center Exhibitions presents Rendition, an exhibition by the Chicago-based artist David Schutter exploring the contemporary life of historical painting.
Rendition, a word implying the act of making, of interpretation, of taking a thing from one place to another by force, has its origin in the obsolete French or late Latin redditi?, meaning “return” in the sense of giving back. It proves to be a fitting title for a suite of paintings based on an ensemble by a 19th-century French landscape painter, which currently hangs in gallery 224 of the Art Institute of Chicago and to which the artist has returned on his habitual visits to the museum.
