Sport in Art, after History in Art, is the second exhibition in the series which shows how artists perceive the issues that matter in people’s everyday lives. Both this exhibition and the entire cycle aim to show the close relationship between life and art and set out to prove that art aids understanding of the human condition.
Sport performs a terrific therapeutic role, relieving us of layers of animal aggression. Mankind has hit on a great idea: how to fight and triumph, without causing any real harm. The world of sport with its elaborate constructs of rules and regulations is a treasure trove of symbols and a perfect context in which to analyse the secret nooks and crannies of human existence.
