As they flew through space, John Jasperse’s dancers curved and twisted, creating a vortex at the center of a field of white craft paper. Inventive, quirky phrases, like sticks in eddies of water — sudden juts of elbows or unexpected tilts and catches — punctuated, questioned and mapped the space. Jasperse’s sly physical humor teased like a wink, not a belly laugh.
