“We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures. —Thornton Wilder
Since it’s the day before the Thanksgiving holiday, and two days before the rush of consumerism is officially upon us, it seems appropriate to pause, take a deep breath and remember all that we have to be grateful for.
An attitude of gratitude—I really like the ring of it, the idea of it, and so this morning I started off my day with it. When my daughter asked for something to watch on TV, I asked her what she was thankful for. I’m happy to report that, after a bit of prodding, her family, including her loud sister, topped her list, followed by TV (didn’t see that one coming) and our heater.
Starting off our busy days with a rundown of what we’re grateful for—from clean running water, health and having a job, to having a job in a creative industry, heaters and fill in the blank (many times over I’m sure)—may help us to meet life’s numerous unavoidable frustrations, obstacles and production deadlines with a bit more patience and understanding. Because in the BIG picture, we have a lot to be thankful for.
