Although whales are the largest animals on the planet, but because they live deep in the ocean—unreachable, untouchable—they are also among the most mysterious (and beloved). Whales: Giants of the Deep, is a new interactive experience at Chicago’s Field Museum that enables visitors to get up close with these amazing animals. Based on the concept of visitors having tons to discuss and report after seeing the exhibit, this transit campaign, by DDB Chicago, also illustrates how much the exhibit has to show and teach. Recognizing the need for instantaneous imagery when it comes to outdoor campaigns, the creative team wrestled with how to best bring the concept to life. Their solution? Simple but evocative whale-shaped-speech-bubbles that provide a quick and clever visual. Supporting the same exhibit is a double-decker bus, wrapped inside and out to make passengers feel as though they’re traveling inside a whale.
