Standing out in the food world is difficult, but the recent publication of G, with the stories of seven chefs in seven cites cooking with the same primary ingredient—grapes—is a great example of a creative partnership to produce something extraordinary. Photographer EJ Armstrong of Seattle-based Armstrong Pitts Studios has been working with the California Table Grape Commission for over a decade; over time her work has evolved from one-off shoots to the development of a grape library consisting of thousands of unique images with a cohesive look. Now with partner, Scott Pitts, she’s shot the complete issue of G. Despite shooting that took place in seven cities over the course of six weeks, cover-to-cover the magazine delivers impressive consistency with a visual design that provides the perfect backdrop to a series of images that capture each chef’s unique style and personality—without sacrificing a single detail.
