The exhibition ‘Disquieting Muses’ is launched by the Contemporary Art Center of Thessaloniki, part of the State Museum of Contemporary Art, in Thessaloniki Greece, from July 5 till September 4, 2011. The exhibition presents works from 7 contemporary women artists—Diana Al-Hadid, Lara Baladi, Zoulikha Bouabdellah, Mona Hatoum, Hayv Kahraman, Majida Khattari and Zineb Sedira—whose origin and life experience connects them with the Arab world, although—due to historical and political circumstances—they have chosen or they have been obliged to take distance from their birth places. It deals with the complexity of personal experience and the transformation of feelings of loss and displacement into artistic creation.
