This iPhone app edition of Stephen Fry’s latest autobiography, The Fry Chronicles, was initiated by Jeremy Ettinghausen at Penguin, designed by London-based Stephanie Posavec and developed by Dare Digital. Stephen Fry’s autobiography is written in a style well-suited to splitting the text into separate moments of his life. The app functions as graphic visual index of key theme tags from the book that have been divided into four major groups: People, Subjects, Emotions and “Fryisms.” The entirety of the book is represented by a circular wheel of “spines,” each of which represents a section of text; arcs around the outside of the wheel connect sections that are tagged with the same theme. By interacting with the scroll wheel, users can explore the text and read sections chronologically, randomly or by theme.
